Shore Dives on the Big Island of Hawaii

Shore diving on the Big Island offers certified divers easy access to world-class reef systems without the need for a boat charter. Simply walk into the ocean from the shoreline and within minutes you're exploring vibrant coral gardens, lava rock formations, and marine habitats teeming with tropical life.

The Kona Coast features several excellent shore dive sites where calm conditions, easy entries, and abundant marine life make for outstanding dives. Professional dive guides lead small groups to the best spots, pointing out camouflaged octopuses, rare nudibranchs, sleeping whitetip reef sharks, and the diverse cast of reef fish that call these waters home.

Shore dives are also the perfect setting for refresher dives — certified divers who haven't been underwater in a while can ease back into diving in the shallow, calm conditions of a shore site before committing to deeper boat dives. Dive operators offer guided refresher packages that combine skills review with an actual reef dive.

All equipment is provided including tanks, BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, and weights. Shore dives typically last 45-60 minutes at depths of 20-60 feet, with multiple dive options available for those wanting to log more than one tank in a session.
